The new Panasonic GH5S

With the Panasonic Lumix GH5S professional system camera, you can record high quality video in low light conditions you've never dared to try before.

The camera is equipped with an extremely sensitive 10.2 megapixel MOS sensor that provides access to the highest ISO settings so far in a Panasonic system camera; Up to ISO 51 200 or even ISO 204 800 in a special extended mode. Together with the new Dual Native ISO technology and the Venus Engine image processor, videos and still images come out crystal clear and noiseless even when recorded in dark environments.

A quick, responsive and precise auto focus that works in as little light as -5 EV plus a weather resistant, freeze proof body made from strong magnesium alloy also make sure you never need to worry if the camera can handle a job. The Panasonic Lumix GH5S can take on even the toughest assignments!

Cinema 4K, V-LogL and Time Code
The heart of the Lumix GH5S is its 10.2 megapixel Multi Aspect image sensor, which offers the ability to shoot with different aspect ratios, such as 4: 3, 17: 9, 16: 0, and 3: 2, but the same angle of view. The GH5S is also the first camera that can record in Cinema 4K, C4K (4096x2160 pixels) at frame rates up to 60p. And there is no time limit for your recordings, either in C4K or Full HD. Furthermore, if you want to shoot at really high speeds for slow motion scenes, you can use the variable frame rate feature and reach up to 240 fps with Full HD.

Video is recorded with 4:2:2 color subsampling and the signal can either be output at 10-bit color depth to an external storage device (via HDMI), or saved at 8 bit on a memory card. Built-in profiles with wide dynamic range, Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) and V-LogL, provide the ability to get exactly the tone and contrast desired in the finished material.

Microphone input and headphone jack are obvious features on a pro level camera, but the Lumix GH5S also supports Time Code, both in and out. A feature that significantly simplifies audio and video synchronization when recording a scene with multiple cameras.

Extreme sensitivity
Thanks to the high-sensitivity image sensor, a new technology with two noise reduction circuits for each pixel (Dual Native ISO) and the powerful Venus Engine image processor, the Panasonic Lumix GH5S offers a huge range of sensitivities, from ISO 160 all the way up to ISO 51 200. A special setting for extended sensitivities make it even possible to reach ISO 204 800!

The advanced technology assures low noise levels even in really dark scenes and provides a great freedom to shoot in existing light.

Fast and precise in all situations
The Depth from Defocus (DFD) technology provides fast and precise focusing for both video and photography. But equally important is the GH5S’s capability to focus in as low light as -5 EV. That’s so dark that the eyes can hardly discern any details. And if you want to capture action scenes, you can set shutter speeds up to 1/16 000 (with the electronic shutter) and shoot at 8 frames per second with continuous autofocus (AF-C). Using the 4K Photo mode, you can reach extreme speeds – up to 60 frames per second at a resolution of 8 megapixels.

Built for field conditions
In addition to the 3.2-inch touch screen, the Panasonic Lumix GH5S also features a high-resolution electronic viewfinder with OLED technology that allows for an enhanced image in low light (Live Boost). An ergonomic grip makes the camera comfortable and safe to hold even heavier lenses, microphones and other accessories mounted. Large controls and both front and rear input dials make it easy to change settings. A well-positioned joystick can be used to manually select an auto focus point.

The Lumix GH5S is built for tough use and its weatherproof magnesium alloy chassis can withstand cold (guaranteed down to -10 degrees), water splash and dirt. This is truly a camera for field conditions, with dual SD card slots (both supporting UHS-II / V90 speed class), USB battery charging and an optional battery grip (DMW-BGGH5).

The new Panasonic GH5S uses the same EVF as the GH5, and also inherits the awesome 3.2-inch swivel touchscreen with a 3,680K-dot resolution from its GH5 brother. And if you are planning on taking stills with the new Panasonic GH5s, while this is certainly possible, the same 225-point AF area remains should do you just fine, however due to the new 10.2 megapixel sensor and images processing the GH5S can focus in very dim conditions (up to -5 EV), a full exposure value up from the -4 EV on the GH5.

he GH5s features a newly developed 10.2 megapixel (effective) multi-aspect CMOS sensor, in the same 4/3-type size as on the GH5, making it possible to shoot in 4K DCI (17:9), UltraHD (3840 x 2160, 16:9), and Anamorphic 4:3 aspect ratios.

In addition, you now get 4K/50 and 4K/60p in Cinema 4K i.e. 4096 x 2160 DCI spec, although this is still in 8bit 4:2:0 chroma sub-sampling. You do get 4K in 24/25/30p in a 10bit 4:2:2 All-Intra 400Mbps codec same as on the GH5. In Full HD the maximum frame rate has gone up to 240fps, for a 1080/240fps super-slow motion, which is kind of amazing when you think about it, given the size of the camera.

Probably the biggest new feature in the Panasonic GH5S is the Dual Native ISO. With a maximum ISO of 51,200 (compared to 25,600 on the GH5) and newly optimized sensor for low-light performance, we should expect a big boost in low-light sensitivity in video for the GH5S. The low-light performance of the GH5 was one of the weaker points of the previous camera; whether this was an inherent fault of the 4/3-type chip, or unrealistic comparisons with the full-frame A7s/A7s II, the new GH5S is seeking to rectify this.

You also get V-Log L license pre-installed with the GH5S
